The Little Hours
OFFICIAL Trailer(S)
Writer | Creative Director | not the editor
“The Little Hours” was Gunpowder & Sky’s first nationwide theatrical release, and I was G&S’s creative lead for marketing. I developed this trailer’s narrative structure, selected scenes/music/pull quotes, and shepherded it through many revisions, working with the fantastic editors at Jumpcut NYC. On launch day, it leapt to the #4 trending video on all of YouTube by lunchtime (before getting a well-deserved Adult rating). The film smashed expectations at the box office. The trailer won a Golden Trailer Award.
Unfortunately, Facebook/Twitter et al wouldn’t allow us to promote the trailer on social (on account of it being absolutely rife with profanity)…so we whipped up this tastefully censored version, which met with all requirements to neither utter profanity nor (as we came to learn) even IMPLY profanity via lip reading.
Finally, here’s the ‘Green Band’ version of the trailer: the one that was officially approved to run conventionally in theaters. While it contains a series of alternate scenes and bits that I think work quite well, I’m mainly including it because the process of making it involved the best phone call of my career: a successful plea with an MPAA representative to allow us to include a great deal of un-bleeped profanity (for thematic and artistic reasons).
